I watched Christiane Amanpour’s interview with Mugabe.Mugabe was very concise and made a lot of sense defending his actions.I think Western media has adopted a ‘might is right’ patronizing attitude towards African countries!
Christiane Amanpour recalled talking to ‘Rhodesians’ learning how shocked they were to Mugabe’s reconciliatory gestures;Mugabe is solely blamed for Zimbabwe’s economic woes,disregarding the whole history of injustice that fueled his actions!Zimabwe’s economy,a primary export economy ,was ultimately crippled by blanket Western sanctions rather than by Mugabe!
When the Western media talks about Africa’s colonial past,the mood is always that of nostalgic,exotic,idyllic era of happiness!There is rarely a mention of the millions of Africans who suffered and toiled in that era!;African leaders who are ‘nationalistic’ are stacked amongst the rogue leaders.
The Nazi conquered ,colonized and enslaved millions in Western and Eastern Europe during World War2,I wonder how people in the West would react if the Germans treated those years of conquest as a period of greatness,heroism and glory!It would be great if Western media covered Africa objectively.
